Logging
The Siberian taiga accounts for about one-fifth of the world's total forested land (more that 2 million square miles) and about one-half of the world's evergreens. The taiga in this region is now disappearing at a rate of 12 million hectares a year. Not only does this destroy the habitats of the few small range of animals that live there, but it also drastically increases the carbon dioxide concentration and lowers the oxygen concentration. To make matters worse, regrowth of mature forests takes a long time because of the climate and soil conditions of the taiga.
